Bruce Golding - political 'wild card'?

G2K, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) youth organisation, in a release, welcomed the announcement by Opposition Leader Edward Seaga that he would have no problem recommending Bruce Golding as an Independent member of the Senate.

The group says it looks forward to Mr. Golding working in partnership with Mr. Seaga.

Speaking at The Gleaner Editors Forum last week, Mr. Seaga said if the JLP wins the upcoming general election, he would have no hesitation in recommending Mr. Golding as an Independent Senator.

And Golding, who left the JLP in early 1995 after 27 years, following what he termed disappointment with the political culture in the party, which he said promoted divisiveness and tribalism, said he would be prepared to consider the recommendation of his former mentor.

Widely touted as the heir-apparent to Mr. Seaga then, Mr. Golding had also lashed out at comments made by Mr. Seaga that he did not see anyone in the party fit to take over its leadership. However, last week he said that he would be "happy to serve his country in any capacity," consistent with the principles he espouses.
