Teino Evans, Gleaner Writer

AMIDST THE regular party candidates vying for a position in the upcoming Local Government elections, is first-time independent candidate, Elenore Theresa Belafante Ellis. She was accompanied by five supporters on Nomination Day.

Ellis represents the Imperial Ethiopian World Federation Incorporated Political Party, and is the candidate for the Duhaney Park division. She is hoping to bring something new to the table. According to her, "We have upliftments for the deteriorated standard of living," as she and her party seeks to bring about "peace and harmony instead of violence."

According to Ellis, the motto or major theme of her political party is "Unity in Diversity... Liberty in Our Nation". The last segment she says, spells 'L.I.O.N', which is representative of their willpower and strong might.

Ellis, when interviewed by The Sunday Gleaner on Nomination Day, was optimistic that she would do well against her other opponents from the two long-standing political parties, the People's National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

Also vying for the Duhaney Park division were PNP candidate, Anthony Ferguson, and JLP candidate, Joyce Young. These candidates were present at the Edith Dalton James school in Duhaney Park, St. Andrew, for Nomination Day.
