Slow start to voting in most divisions

Local Government lections islandwide seem to have proceeded generally without incident. However, reports from across the island indicate that voting has been slow in most divisions.

In South Manchester, there were no reports of any violence nor intimidation. Around 2:00 p.m., it was reported that the pace of the voting had picked.

Central St. Catherine

There was an incident on Hanover Street, Spanish Town, where a group of men travelling in a motorcar allegedly tried to steal ballot boxes. According to reports, this plan was foiled by security personnel. In the community of Wynter's Pen in Central St. Catherine, there were reports of police and gunmen trading gunfire. This lasted for about an hour. The police called in reinforcements and the situation quelled. There are no reports of any deaths or injuries but two illegal guns were found and two men held.

In East Thomas, there were no reports of any trouble in the four divisions of Bath, Morant Bay, Dalvey and Port Morant. It is reported that voting moved very slowly throughout the day
