Clarendon: Woman slapped for refusing to vote
- posted: 2003-06-19 18:23:02

In North Central Clarendon at the May Pen Court House though relatively peaceful, the day was not without incident. It was reported that a young lady was slapped in the face when she refused to vote. A strong police presence is now in the area assisting voters through the voting process. A large contingent of JLP supporters in their party colours had gathered within the vicinity of the poling station.

Over in North West St. James party supporters also observed the 100-meter restriction. However a strong police presence has been implemented at the Flankers Primary and Junior High School, as they were plagued with over crowding in the October 2002 general elections.

Eastern Westmoreland saw an increase in voter turnout. By 2 p.m. most polling stations reported a 40% voter turnout. However this was marred by the popular complaint of voters that even though their names were present on the list of the out agents and they had their IDs their names were absent from the official lists inside the polling stations. Party supports of both parties congregated peacefully away from the polling station throughout the day.
