Trelawny Roundup

Report by Richard Morais, Gleaner Writer, Trelawny
It was a lackluster polling in Trelawny today as most voters in the parish stayed away from the ballots.

Of the divisions the Gleaner visited, those supervisors who offered comments are indicating a low turnout. The Gleaner observed that many divisions had but a ‘trickle’ of voters entering polling stations.

The strong exceptions to the parish trend was in the Duanvale area where by mid-afternoon there was a steady queue. In the Wakefield Division, Jonathan Bartley, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) reported a 75 per cent voter turnout. Though the JLP candidate was happy to report this, political pundits believe that a high turnout in any of the divisions will not favour his party.

Up to mid-afternoon the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) Officers Sgt. Andrea Brown in the north of the parish and Constable Patrick Chin in the south reported no incidences.

While there was clear demarcation between the green and orange party supporters, there was no overt animosity between the parties. In fact, the odd individual would venture across party lines for a laugh.
