Preliminary police voters’ list issued

The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) says it has sent a copy of the preliminary police voters' list to the Office of the Police Commissioner for review.

The ECJ says the list, which was sent to the Commissioner’s Office on Monday contains the names of all registered electors listed as police personnel, along with the current divisions in which they are stationed.

The Commissioner’s Office has been asked to scrutinise the list for accuracy, and to submit the necessary amendments to the Electoral Office by Monday, February 27.

The final copy of the list will be used in the upcoming local government elections.

Police personnel who intend to vote in the upcoming local government elections are being encouraged check with the Commissioner’s Office, or relevant authorities, to ensure that their names and working locations match those on record.

Under The Representation of the People Act, the names of police and military personnel are extracted from the civilian voters’ list, as they must cast their ballots three clear days ahead of Election Day.
