The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is expressing confidence that it will sweep the St. Mary Parish Council in the upcoming local government elections.

The party has stepped up its election activities in the parish, as the March 26 poll draws closer.

In the December 2007 local government elections, the JLP won 10 of the 13 seats in the St Mary parish council.

The Belfield, Highgate and Oracabessa were won by the then opposition People’s National Party

However, the JLP and its candidates for those Divisions are optimistic that the JLP will capture those seats to take full control of the St. Mary Parish Council.

First-timers Trecia Broderick is contesting the Oracabessa Division, Navorene Shirley, the Highgate Division and Paul Gordon the Belfield Division.
