Police activate election security plan

The police say they have activated plans to ensure safety and security during today’s election.

Deputy Commissioner Glenmore Hinds, who is responsible for police operations, says more cops have been deployed to the streets and voting centres.

DCP Hinds says additional tactical arrangements have also been put in place to allow the police to quickly respond to any potential criminal activity.

Meanwhwile, the police are warning supporters of both political parties that they will be prosecuted if they disobey the Road Traffic Act.

The police say they will not tolerate passengers protruding from or sitting on top of motor vehicles.

The police are also urging motorists to obey the speed limit and drive carefully.
