Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) proposes body to oversee pensions

Published in the Jamaica Gleaner: Friday | August 3, 2007

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is proposing to establish a pension commission as an independent regulatory body to oversee the administration of all pension schemes, public and private.

This is one of several proposals the JLP has put forward in its 2007 Manifesto, which was launched on Monday.

In addition, the JLP said it would also make provision for portability to preserve the pension rights of members of any pension scheme and allow for the transfer of these rights when workers change jobs.

The party is also proposing to review the National Insurance Scheme to provide greater protection and benefits for pensioners.
