Party supporter charged

A 36-year-old People's National Party (PNP) supporter is to face the courts in St. Elizabeth tomorrow to answer to charges of breaches of the Firearms Act.
Marlon Davidson, of Exton district, was arrested by the police while on a PNP motorcade in the Kinole area of Malvern, following Nomination Day proceedings in South West St. Elizabeth on Tuesday.

The police report that, some time after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, acting on information, they stopped and searched Davidson.

A 9mm semi-automatic Smith and Wesson pistol, along with a magazine containing eight 9mm rounds, was taken from his waistband.

During a further search of a backpack he was carrying, an additional eight 9mm rounds were found.

Taken into custody

He was taken into custody and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Head of the St. Elizabeth Police, Supt. Howard Francis, said the police in the parish were adopting a zero-tolerance approach to breaches of the Political Code of Conduct during the campaign leading up to the general election on August 27.

Supt. Francis said instructions have also been given for the police to take a drastic stance against body protrusion by persons on the campaign trail.
