Praying for a peaceful election

Spanish Town, St. Catherine:

The Ministers Fraternal in Spanish Town worshipped with several candidates for the upcoming General Election at their service for 'Peace, Unity and Protection for St. Catherine and Jamaica' at the Phillippo Baptist Church yesterday.

The Gleaner visited the historical building to find several ministers of religion and members of the church, along with Custos of St. Catherine Sophia Azan, Mayor of Spanish Town Andrew Wheatley, the People's National Party's (PNP) Fitz Jackson and Homer White, and the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) Olivia 'Babsy' Grange and the other members of the St. Catherine Parish Council.

According to Rev. Terrence Brown, public relations officer for the fraternal, the aim of the day's activities was to pray for, and with, the politicians, so that divine guidance can take them through their election and after.

Church has a part to play

"We believe the Church has a part to play and, as such, we decided to worship with the men and women of politics. That's why we invited all candidates for St. Catherine to ask God's guidance on the task they have ahead," remarked Rev. Brown.

Persons prayed for the Old Capital, the parish, political leaders, the Church, the youth and Jamaica at large.

In closing, Rev. Jeffrey McKenzie implored the candidates to put God first, and to remember that they are representing a nation which takes precedence over party politics.

The candidates all agreed that they will be working in this regard.
